Welcome! I’m excited to have this platform to share my experiences and connect with others who are also navigating the adoption waters.
My name is Laura and I live in Austin with my husband Don. When we got married we never expected to be living in Texas but after a number of unbearably cold Chicago winters we made the move and love it. Whether we are playing tennis, finding hidden trails or just laying by the pool, we love being able to enjoy the outdoors more often!
Currently we don’t have any children but that is about to change! We are in the adoption process and are hoping to become parents by the end of 2018. Which brings me to….
Starting Palmer Path to Parenthood Blog
Our journey to parenthood hasn’t exactly been smooth. My first pregnancy in 2016 ended in emergency surgery resulting in the loss of our baby. Soon after it was determined that we had a very low chance of conceiving naturally and pursued IUI treatments. After suffering a chemical pregnancy, I just broke down. I couldn’t keep putting my body through the physical, emotional and mental trauma anymore.
Adoption was always in the back of our minds and as time passed it moved to the forefront. After attending an adoption seminar, reading books and talking with couples who had adopted we decided to stop fertility treatments and pursue adoption as our path to parenthood.
As we started this journey we realized we did not have many resources to connect with. None of our friends or family had gone down this road. I found myself scouring the internet for information. While there is a wealth of information, it seemed as though the nitty gritty was glossed over.
I want this blog to be honest and open. We are in the beginning stages of adoption and even early on there have been emotions I didn’t know I was going to feel. My goal is to share the good, the bad, the happy and the sad (hoping for more happy than sad!).
As our adoption journey progresses, I envision the blog evolving as well. Who knows what is in store but I’m excited to see and am glad you are along for the ride!
The picture featured on the header of this site is from our engagement photo session. Every time I see the picture I can’t help but think “These Boots Are Made for Walking”. I reflect back on when the picture was taken (6 years ago now!) and how far we have traveled in the years since. It has been quite the journey so far and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
